This was a great gig. Amazing for someone who hears voices anyway. I kept having to control myself from actually interpreting what they were saying/ voicing/ sounding/ vocalising as being in being in concert with my thoughts. Anyone who saw this gig normally care to share their experiences? Did anyone there experience it normally?

Here are downloads to my paper on Foucault and Habermas as well as a bibliography. Unfortunately due to the corresponding scripts in Microsoft Word and on WordPress it is only available as a download (basically the footnotes go haywire when I try to publish it on here). Hope you enjoy.

[Edit: 27/03/08. Thanks to all those who have been downloading this, I am glad there has been so much interest. However if anyone thinks it worthwhile quoting from it, could you please cite it: Kemp, A. MA in Social and Political Thought dissertation, University of Sussex, 2006-2007. Thankyou]

Links here (after obituary) to CASL, the Campaign for Abolition of the Schizophrenia Label by the group Asylum. Joking aside, in many ways the term Schizophrenia is what the social theorist Ernesto Laclau would call an empty signifier, the amount of symptoms upon which it draws and that may or may not be present, such that its manifestation is manifestly different in each individual, mean that the label becomes meaningless other than as a relation between the patient and doctor or medical profession.

This is a relatively old one, an article by the philosopher David Chalmers about the Matrix. It is written for a lay audience and would be interesting to anyone who has seen the trilogy (liking it or not)

Some of you may have noticed that over the last six months posts all but disappeared, and then when they did return their nature changed. I’m trying to restructure the site to bring in more interests but also I seem to have less to write about. I’m not complaining I realise this is good but felt an apology was in order.
Whilst I have been running this blog I have been studying a Masters, I handed my dissertation in after the summer, hence disappearance of entries at that time. I ended up with a merit which is good. This change in fortunes has been part of the change in blog style. However there is another reason. For a long time I was on Olanzapine, that kept me stable for seven years but after a while as often happens either my body got used to it or beneath it my illness was getting worse unnoticed. Even were I to come off due to the change in circumstances and life experiences whilst on Olanzapine, it would be impossible to tell which. This is life there is no control experiment.
This happened two summers ago, half way through my Masters (so it could also have been stress). My CPN acted immediately, and although I had been discharged from my consultant due to good mental health, or normalisation (I had been stable for a long time put it that way), got me an appointment and I was changed to Risperidone.
It took a while to get into my system but it looks like Risperidone is the drug for me. I can see the advert: Risperidone normalises successfully (side effects: may display a growing interest in Post Marxist theory). Anyway this is why I have had less ‘experiences’ to write about. To put it bluntly I just haven’t been ill enough. I have many memories of past experiences which I shall continue to share, but in the meantime I am enjoying a stint of sanity I have not had for a while. I will update with useful titbits from time to time, and as I said I will still be putting up thoughts and offerings, however even though I have finished one life experience, there is a new one on the way, an immanent arrival shall we say, so a full return will have to be on hold for a while.
